UPDATE: Now we know for sure McCain can’t read this (Full confession on his complete lack of technology literacy)

Found this on demconwatchblog.com. It has no funny banter like last video posted here, but it goes right to the point. McCain, asked if he uses a PC or a Mac, admits he uses neither and relies completely on his wife.

No, the fact that Senator McCain does not use a computer does not disqualify him from serving as President (although his birth place might: NYT).  However, this is one example (and one of the more powerful ones) of Senator McCain’s out of touch attitude with modern society.

Technology, and our ability to retain our position as leaders in this broad industry, is essential for every aspect of our future.  We need computers for science, medicine, energy, and the list goes on.  We need to have better understanding of our bodies and our planet.  We need efficient processes and fast communication maximize our potential.  Connectivity today is how we share infomration, how we spread the word to get from ideas to actions.  Not everyone needs an Blackberry or a 30 second turnaround time on Twitter, but I cannot imagine a leader who fails to grasp the importance of email and the internet in our daily lives.  (Do not be confused with the Bush Administration; they seemed to understand the importance of the technologoy to use email, including mobile devices paid by the Republican National Committee, which subsequently lost millions of emails, completely eliminating government accountability.)

There is generation gap in the world of technology, and it would be unfair to say we need a president who understands only the younger, more “ultra” connected generation.  But in 2008, when my grandmother purchased a computer and took up emailing and iPhoto, and my dad will be the first one in my family to pick up an iPhone 3G, it doesn’t feel right that a presidential candidate needs his wife to log onto CNN.com, foxnews.com, or even johnmccain.com.
